Pre/Post Card:
On the index card marked "Pre/Post," take a moment to jot down one or two facts you already know about "brain science" and learning. In addition, write a question you want answered during this micro-course. We'll come back to this card at the end of the ten minutes.
In your online programs, build in some pre/post reflections like the instructions above. These are the connections learners will make to the content, as well as the conclusions they will summarize.

Using a Metaphor:
If you are familiar with card games, you know that the word "trump" means "better than." A trump card is the one that is better than all the other cards; it is worth more points and ultimately helps a card player to win the game.
We'll use this card-playing metaphor here. Modern brain science teaches us that three ways of learning "trump" other, more traditional methods of learning:
1. Movement trumps sitting.
2. Talking trumps listening.
3. Images trump words.
Another way of putting it is: Movement, talking, and images help learners "win" the game of learning.
Using a metaphor is a powerful way to enhance instruction because it is a visual strategy: A metaphor creates an image in the learner's mind. Think about some metaphors you can use in your online courses that would get the major points across.
